(Hamilton County, Oh.) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a phone scam.

During the calls, they instruct victims to drive to a specific location to purchase a money order or Venmo a specific amount of money or they will be arrested.

“The caller then states the victim is not allowed to hang up as they are under tele-arrest,” said Sheriff McGuffey.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reminds citizen that they will never ask for any type of payment over the phone. In addition, government agencies will never ask for payment for any type of citation or bail by unusual means such as gift cards, wire transfer, or electronic cash apps.
