Primary Election Day Is Here For Voters In Aurora, Lawrenceburg, Greendale

There are contested mayoral primary races in Aurora and Lawrenceburg.

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Tuesday is primary election day for some, but not all voters in Indiana and Ohio.

In Indiana, polling places are open 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. this evening. If you are a Hoosier, you can find your voter registration status, polling location, sample ballot, file a grievance, and more at IndianaVoters.com or by calling 866-IN-1-VOTE.

Ohio polling places are open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. For Ohio voter information, go to MyOhioVote.com.

There are three vote centers in Dearborn County today.  This is the county’s first election since adopting a new vote centers model earlier this year. The vote centers are located at the Aurora Park Pavilion, the Greendale Cabin, and the Lawrenceburg Tate Street Firehouse. New electronic voting equipment allows voters from any city to vote at any of those three vote centers they like.

There are contested races in Lawrenceburg, Aurora and Greendale, with the winners moving on to the November general election.

In Lawrenceburg, the Republican mayoral primary includes three candidates locked in a race where a lot of allegations have been thrown around. They are incumbent mayor Kelly Mollaun, Mike Lawrence, and Steve Linkmeyer. Other Republican contested races in Lawrenceburg include incumbent Tony Abbott against Tom Schneider for City Council District 1 and Brett Bondurant versus Wendy Rainey for City Council At-Large.

The Democratic ballot in Lawrenceburg has former mayor Dennis Carr against councilman Aaron Cook in the mayoral primary. Council District 1 puts Tim Denning against Jane Pope, Council District 2 is Regina Rybolt against J.R. Holdcraft, District 3 is Mooch Callaway against Dan Rogers, and District 4 puts incumbent Randy Abner versus Bryan Johnson.

Aurora voters will pick their mayoral nominees today, too. In the Republican race, it will be two city councilman – Mark Drury and Patrick Schwing – running for the GOP mayoral nomination.

The Democratic mayoral nomination is up for grabs between Aurora businessmen Dan Valas, who owns Great Crescent Brewery, and Mel Kremer Jr., owner of Nite Out Transportation.

Whoever is elected Aurora mayor in November will succeed longtime mayor Donnie Hastings Jr. who has been in office for almost 16 years.

The only contest race for the GOP in Greendale is in the Council District 1 race. That’s where Doc Wilson and John Davis are vying for the nomination. Likewise, those pulling a Democratic ballot in Greendale only have to decide one contested race between John Johnson and Christine Craig in City Council District 1.

There was initially going to be a contested race for the Republican nomination for mayor in Harrison in this primary election. However, former candidate Cindy Abrams dropped out of the race last month and threw her support to incumbent mayor Bill Neyer. Abrams is instead running for state representative in 2020.
