The new emergency alert system will provide rapid notification of hazardous and urgent situations using a mix of communication.
(Ripley County, Ind.) – Ripley County’s new mass notification system will provide rapid notification of hazardous and urgent situations.
Ripley County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) announced Tuesday the implementation of Hyper-Reach.
The state-of-the-are mass emergency notification system is designed specifically for public safety, alerting residents of hazardous and urgent situations using a mix of telephone calls, text, and email messages. The system also has the capability to use TTY/TDD service for the hearing impaired.
Emergency alerts may also be enabled through Alexa smart speakers.
According to Ripley County EMA, the system sends messages to geographically targeted households in seconds and can simultaneously deliver alerts to a broader audience via social media.
When the National Weather Service issues a warning it will simultaneously be sent through the Hyper-Reach system. In addition to weather emergencies, the system can be used to notify residents of missing persons, criminal activity, boil water advisory, and other various threats to people, property, or the environment.
“Our job is to protect the citizens of Ripley County as effectively and cost-efficiently as possible.” said Randy Miller, Ripley County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director. “We met with other major vendors for emergency notification service, and Hyper-Reach gave us everything we needed.”
All residents living or working within the county limits are encouraged to enroll by either calling or texting “Alert” to 812-609-6699 or by going to https://signup.hyper-reach.com/hyper_reach/sign_up_page_2/?id=110102.
Enrolled subscribers can opt into what emergency alerts they want to receive.
The current CodeRED notification system will end at the end of the year.
