INDIANAPOLIS – State Representatives Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon) and Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) encourage local students and recent graduates to apply for internships at the Indiana Statehouse.
The House of Representatives offers paid spring internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns receive $900 biweekly while working at the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2024 legislative session, which runs January through mid-March.
"As a former intern, I know firsthand what an amazing experience this can be for Hoosiers who want to put their classroom skills to work," Zimmerman said. "With the deadline fast approaching, I encourage Southeast Indiana students to take time and apply today."
Positions are available in legislative operations where interns work directly with constituents and help track committee activity. The communications department is seeking interns to help write press releases and email newsletters, and work with social media, graphic design, and audio/video production. Interns are also needed in the policy department, which helps research, track and analyze legislation.
"Making business connections is an important steppingstone for anyone looking to launch their career," Patterson said. "By interning at the Statehouse, young Hoosiers can meet and network with leaders and employers from across the state."
Interns will work full time, Monday through Friday, and will gain career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student’s college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
Interested Hoosiers should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to apply. The deadline is October 31.
