(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A minor traffic violation led police to a methamphetamine bust in Lawrenceburg.
The traffic stop occurred on Wednesday, August 1 after a Dearborn County Sheriff's deputy noticed a driver fail to use their turn signal while switching lanes on U.S. 50 near Hollywood Boulevard.
During the stop, deputies say the driver, Marsha R. Hay, 41, of West Harrison, was overly nervous and shaking. At that time, an Indiana State Police Trooper and his K-9 partner were called to the scene for a free air sniff.
Officers then searched Hay and her vehicle and allegedly found a burnt marijuana cigarette, plastic bags containing methamphetamine and marijuana, a glass smoking pipe and a digital scale.
A search was also conducted at a nearby hotel room Hay had been staying in, where more drug paraphernalia was allegedly uncovered.
Hay is charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 5 felony), Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 felony), Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 felony), Possession of Paraphernalia with a Prior (Level 6 felony) and Possession of Marijuana with a Prior (Class A misdemeanor).
She is currently being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $50,000 surety and $1,000 cash bond.
