Sheriff Patrols To Continue In Some Townships

(Hamilton County, Oh.) - Regular Hamilton County Sheriff's patrols will be stopped in Green Township next week, while other townships in the western half of the county will keep their deputies.

Hamilton County Commissioners cut the sheriff's budget by $4 million for this year, forcing the sheriff to ask townships to pick up the cost for patrol deputies.

Speakign to commissioners Monday, Sheriff Simon Leis said his office will need 30 fewer deputies beginning April 1.

Green Township will lose six deputies, but the township does have its own police department to help pick up the slack.

Miami Township will payto keep four deputies patrolling its streets.

The sheriff's office is going to allow Whitewater, Crosby, and Harrison townships to keep its patrols for free until 2015. Each of those townships have no police department of their own. The delay will give township trustees time to find funding.
