TSA Finding Guns In CVG Carry-Ons; 1,800+ Seized Nationwide

By Mike Perleberg (Hebron, Ky.) – Transportation Security Administration employees at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport are finding guns in passengers’ luggage at an alarming clip. The Wall Street Journal reports that 1,813 firearms have been found in carry-on baggage at checkpoints at airports across the country where the TSA is responsible for security between January 1 and June 30, 2014. So far this year, nine guns have been found in carry-on baggage at CVG. Indianapolis International Airport has seen 11 firearms confiscated by the TSA while 10 have been seized from carry-ons at Louisville International Airport. Blue Grass Airport in Lexington was the site of three confiscations while Dayton’s James M. Cox International Airport had only one instance. Which airports had the most instances of guns being found in carry-on bags? Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport each with 46 firearms seized. Attempting to take a firearm aboard a plane in carry-on luggage can result in an arrest or citation with a fine up to $7,500. According to the TSA’s website, “travelers may only transport unloaded firearms in a locked, hard-sided container as checked baggage. All firearms, ammunition and firearm parts, including firearm frames, receivers, clips and magazines are prohibited in carry-on baggage.”
