(Milan, Ind.) – Milan is the next area school corporation in line to install a multi-purpose synthetic turf playing surface.

The school board recently approved the plan and viewed a final proposal for the new field at Monday’s meeting.

Athletic director John Prifogle tells Eagle Country 99.3 that the Motz Group will install the multi-purpose field. The organization comes highly recommended, as they have completed similar projects at East Central, Lawrenceburg, and South Dearborn.

Construction is set to begin in mid-May.

Prifogle says the installation of a multi-use turf field is “what’s best for our student-athletes.”

The field will not only be used for athletic competition in football and soccer, but will also be used by PE classes, for recess, and more.

Other improvements around the field include the installation of a new scoreboard and play clocks, and a new concession area.

The multi-use turf field is scheduled to be completed by August 1.

Milan Community Schools released the following statement:

"The improvements at Milan Community Schools are part of an $11.4 million dollar bond project approved in February 2021. Completed in the summer of 2021 are elementary renovations that include HVAC improvements, roof repair, swimming pool renovations, ceiling tile replacement, improvement of parent pick up and drop off area, addition of a maintenance facility, and entryway restroom remodel. The renovations at the middle school and high school include a new roof, safe and secure entries at both buildings, office renovations, HVAC replacement and an addition of a maintenance facility.  All buildings in the district upgraded their clocks and intercom systems.

The next phase of the project coming in the summer of 2022 includes renovation of the high school gym lobby and locker rooms, addition of a 3,000 sq. ft. weight room and addition of a multi-use turf field with improvements around the football stadium, including the addition of visitor bleachers and a new scoreboard.

Kovert Hawkins, a Tower Pinkster Company, serves as the design architect, while The Poole Group, from Milan, is the general contractor for all the building projects. Smither Roofing Company, from Indianapolis, is in charge of roofing the middle school and high school.  The Motz Group, from Cincinnati, Ohio, is responsible for the field project.

Milan Community School Corporation has a history of being fiscally responsible, with pride in facilities offered to students, staff and community. Because of that, there are no increases in taxpayer contributions to fund this project which will serve the community."
