UPDATE: Police ID Victim of Fatal North Dearborn Road Crash

Update published Monday, April 25 at 2:55 p.m.:

The names of the individuals involved in Friday's fatal crash have been released. 

According to the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, Rita Hartman, 70, of Sunman, was killed when she was struck by a pickup truck while mowing her lawn last Friday afternoon.

Investigators say Lester Cash, 74, of Sunman, was westbound on North Dearborn Road when he ran off the road and struck Hartman.

Cash has been cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators say they are still looking into why Cash’s vehicle left the roadway.

 

Update published Friday, April 22 at 4:31 p.m.: 

According to the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, a 70-year-old female was the victim of a fatal crash on North Dearborn Road.

First responders were dispatched to the accident around 1:00 p.m. where the female was struck by a passenger vehicle while mowing her lawn.

Investigators say a 74-year-old male was traveling west on North Dearborn Road when he ran off the right side of the road and struck the woman operating a push mower near the road.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The names of those involved have not been released at this time.

The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by a crash reconstruction team with the Indiana State Police and the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.

 

Original story published Friday, Aprill 22 at 2:32 p.m.:

(Sunman, Ind.) - North Dearborn Road is closed in Sunman until further notice. 

An accident involving a passenger vehicle and a mower was reported just before 2:30 p.m. by Dearborn County Dispatch. 

North Dearborn Road is closed between Schantz Road and Creekside Drive. 

Dispatch says school buses will detour the accident. 

The names and status of those involved is unknown at this time.
