(Cross Plains, Ind.) - The victim of a Cross Plains home invasion was able to talk her armed attacker out of the home after recognizing him through a mask.
Daniel “Stretch” Curran, 30, is charged with Burglary with a Deadly Weapon (level 2 felony) and Intimidation (level 5 felony) after the alleged home invasion on Saturday, June 29.
Indiana State Police say a woman was alone at her home on State Road 62 when she heard a knock at her door at around 5:00 a.m. Curran allegedly barged into a woman’s home when she answered the door, according to a court affidavit.
He allegedly wore a mask and held a handgun as he demanded the woman remove her clothes.
Despite the mask, the woman was able to recognize her attacker and talked him into leaving the home. He left in a red car.
Police were called and responded to the victim’s home. She told officers who she believed the suspect was and that he “reeked of alcohol.”
Officers then went to Curran’s home and took him into custody. A black revolver matching the description of the weapon given by the victim was observed on the front passenger seat of a red car in Curran’s driveway. A mask also matching the description given by the victim was observed on the floorboard of the car. Curran was wearing clothing similar to that observed by the victim.
During questioning, Curran told police he had been drinking heavily, but couldn’t remember what he had done.
Curran is currently held in the Ripley County Jail on a $30,000 cash bond. A judge has ordered him to have no contact with the victim, according to court records.
