(Milan, Ind.) - A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will arrive in southeastern Indiana next week.
Baylor Trucking is bringing The Wall That Heals to its headquarters on State Road 48 near State Road 101 outside of Milan. The wall bearing the names of more than 58,000 American soldiers who died in Vietnam will be on display for free 24-hours a day from Wednesday, September 5 through Sunday, September 9.
The wall will arrive on Tuesday, September 4. After staging at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds at 9:30 a.m., a motorcycle escort will accompany it to Baylor Trucking. Cari Baylor, president of Baylor Trucking, says motorcycle riders can help escort The Wall “to give the veterans the welcome home they never had.”
The planned route for The Wall will be U.S. 50 to State Road 350, then to State Road 101 as it arrives at Baylor Trucking.
A welcome ceremony will happen Thursday, September 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the business’ headquarters.
Relatives and friends of tri-state soldiers who died serving in Vietnam are being invited to read their names and help honor their sacrifice.
Volunteers are needed for security detail at the wall. Shifts are four hours each, with the most need for midnight through 4:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. though 8:00 a.m.
Interested individuals should contact Hannah Evans at Baylor Trucking, (812) 623-9224 or hgibson@baylortrucking.com.
