(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Thousands of homes and businesses across southeastern Indiana are without electricity Monday morning.
Southeastern Indiana REMC is reporting about 16,100 outages across its seven county service area, but mostly in Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley, and Switzerland counties.
We are experiencing widespread outages due to a transmission failure from our power supplier, Hoosier Energy. The situation is currently being assessed, therefore we are unable to give an estimated time of restoration. pic.twitter.com/TwJ6Bl0CRZ

Duke Energy is reporting approximately 3,000 outages in southeastern Indiana. The company has issued estimated restoration times ranging from 10:45 a.m. up to 1:45 p.m.
Lawrenceburg Municipal Utilities also has an estimated 400+ customers in the dark. LMU Director Olin Clawson issued the following message to customers:
This morning’s outage, though it impacted LMU customers, was not due to an outage or failure on our system specifically. Duke Energy lost power on the transmission lines that feed both Greendale & LMU.
While not caused by our distribution system, these outages are nonetheless frustrating and inconvenient for you, our valued customers. In times of extreme heat, such as we are experiencing now, these conditions can be especially problematic.
LMU staff are working now to get answers to why these types of outages are occurring and what is being done to prevent them.
