This season marks the 30th anniversary of East Central's first state championship season.
(St. Leon, Ind.) – It has been 30 years since East Central won its first high school football state championship.
This Friday night, the 1994 State Champions will be honored before the kickoff of East Central’s season opening contest against Lawrenceburg.
The ’94 team went 14-0 and defeated DeKalb in the state championship game by a score of 35-0. They outscored their opponents 636-115, holding eight teams to single digits including four shutouts.

The ’94 Trojans were led by Mr. Football Josh Martini. He ran for 2,497 yards and 31 touchdowns. Brian Hart was a key contributor on the ground as well, accounting for 24 touchdowns.
Defensively, Greg Matsey made 18.5 tackles for loss in 1994. Dawayne Gilbert, Bobby Eddy, and Bill Wade were among other defensive standouts.
To date, the ’94 Trojans rank second in program history in best offensive scoring average (46.0), first in rushing yards in a game (521 vs. Martinsville), first in yards per game (505.0), first in total offense (7,072) and fifth for most sacks in a season (87.5), and fourth in points allowed (8.2).
Comparisons can be made to the 2023 Trojans. Last season, the Trojans went 15-0 and averaged 49.3 points per game (tops in school history) and allowed 6.4 points per game (3rd in school history).
The ’23 Trojans also set school records for rushing yards in a season with 4,874, total points (740), best rush average per game (323.1), and lowest rush average by opponents in a season (58 yards)
The 30th anniversary recognition is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. Kickoff will follow at 7:30.
