(St. Leon, Ind.) - Kevin Moore has made a quick impression on athletic directors throughout the State of Indiana.

On Sunday, the East Central High School athletic director was named the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrator's Association (IIAAA) District 4 Athletic Director of the Year.

"Being selected and then honored last night at the state banquet as the District 4 AD of the Year is a really humbling and cool feeling as that recognition comes from other ADs nominating you and then ultimately selecting you as the winner so I certainly appreciate the honor and really enjoy getting to communicate and work with so many other great ADs," said Moore.

He took over the athletic director role in 2023 after then AD Don Stonefield requested a transfer from the position.

Moore tells Eagle Country 99.3 the job is all about serving others.

"Whether that be our athletes or coaches, I'm trying to provide them with support while also motivating them, elevating them, and ultimately celebrating them. It's obviously a very time consuming job but it is a great role for someone that is addicted to competition and sports like I am.  At times you aren't always going to make everyone happy and many times people will not agree with your decisions, but that's part of the job of any leader.  As long as you can keep in mind this about the student-athletes and the community, and do the best job you can for them," added Moore.

While Moore received the recognition from the IIAAA, he was quick to give thanks to several others that played a role in receiving the award.

"This award is an extension of the East Central Athletic Department and my family. As I said, this job takes a lot of time so for my wife and kids to show support through the sacrifice of time, this award isn't possible without them. Additionally, EC Athletics Administrative Assistant., Jill Bingham is terrific at her job and she shares in this accomplishment, as well as ECA treasurer, Beth Smith. Those two ladies are irreplaceable. I'd also like to thank Dr. Jackson and Mr. Black as they are huge advocates of all extra curricular activities and they provide the support. Lastly, I'd like to thank all the event supervisors that help out as well as the coaches and student-athletes that dedicate so much of their time, energy, and passion to pursue their goals and doing so the right way. East Central is a pretty special place to call home," said Moore.

Aside from his AD duties, Moore also serves as the East Central girls varsity basketball head coach. His competitive spirit has helped led the Lady Trojans to a 255-128 record in 17 seasons, including four sectional titles in the last four seasons.
