(Milan, Ind.) – It has been a record year for the Milan Boys Track & Field team.

Not only did they capture the ORVC Championship earlier this month, but the team has also broken many school records – including one that had stood for 40 years.

Milan started the season by competing at indoor meets in Indianapolis. There, the Distance Medley Relay team of Lucas Cooney, Ben Riehle, Gabe Riehle and Ayden Potts set a school record with a time of 10:58.91.

The event consists of 400-, 800-, 1200- and 1600-meter runs.

In May, the Indians’ 4x400 relay team of Ethan DeHamer, Gabe Riehle, Ayden Potts, and Ben Riehle, broke a 40-year-old school record in the event. The 1984 team of Nicklus, Schwipps, Baugh and Biddle ran the 4x400 in 3:31.6. The 2024 team bested that time with a new record of 3:27.77.

The 4x400 relay team would break their own record just weeks later at the East Central Sectional with a time of 3:26.88.

The Riehle’s, Potts and DeHamer teamed for another record in the 4x800. They improved upon the record they set in 2023 (8:21.44) with a time of 8:13.78 on May 2.

Just last week at the East Central Sectional, they ran the 4x800 in 7:54.44, which set a new school record, Sectional 24 record, and East Central Stadium record.

Three Indians will continue their running careers at the collegiate level. Ethan DeHamer is signed to run at St. Mary’s of the Woods in Terre Haute, Ben Riehle will attend Marion College in Indianapolis, and Ayden Potts will run at IU Kokomo.

Other Milan track & field stars who consistently assisted with winning many meets and invitations are Joaquin Allen, Trent Langferman, Ethan Pierce, and Mason Green.
