(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Rising Sun High School, Switzerland County High School and the Highpoint Health Physical Therapy Department celebrated both high schools receiving the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Safe Sports School 2nd Team Award. To commemorate the achievement, the schools were presented with a banner, certificate and congratulatory letter to display.  The recognition is good for three years.

To obtain NATA Safe Sports School 2nd Team recognition, high school athletic programs must accomplish numerous goals, including providing safe and well-maintained facilities and equipment; creating an emergency plan; developing injury and illness prevention strategies; providing pre-participation physical examinations; and offering a permanent, appropriately equipped area to treat injured athletes.  NATA, based in Carrollton, Texas, presents Safe Sports School Awards annually to qualified high schools across the United States.

Highpoint Health’s Athletic Trainers, who provide coverage for Southeastern Indiana school sports programs, helped the schools in obtaining their awards.  Thanks to their respective athletic trainer’s assistance, Milan, Rising Sun, South Dearborn, South Ripley and Switzerland County High Schools have all been presented Safe Sports Team Awards.

Rising Sun and Switzerland County High Schools jointly celebrated their awards during halftime of the “Ruler of the River” game at Rising Sun.  Attending the ceremony were Abby Friend, Rising Sun High School Athletic Director; Mark Boggs, Switzerland County High School Athletic Director; Ed Brush, MSPT/ATC, Director of Highpoint Health Rehabilitation Services; Jennifer Bostic, LAT/ATC, PTA, Highpoint Health Athletic Trainer Coordinator; Josh Uhlmansiek, LAT/ATC, PTA, Highpoint Health Physical Therapist Assistant and Rising Sun High School Athletic Trainer; and Cliff Willoughby, LAT/ATC, PTA, Highpoint Health Physical Therapist Assistant and Athletic Trainer at Switzerland County High School.
