Ullrich passed away on Wednesday at the age of 79.
Bill Ullrich.
(Aurora, Ind.) - The City of Aurora and surrounding communities are mourning the loss of a longtime public servant.
Bill Ullrich passed away Wednesday surrounded by his family. He was 79.
Before serving his community, Ullrich served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Following his service, Ullrich served with the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office, retiring as a Sergeant. He also served on numerous county boards and councils - most recently as an active member of the Aurora Redevelopment Commission.
City of Aurora Mayor Mark Drury provided the following statement:
"The City of Aurora mourns the loss of one of its own, Bill Ullrich. Bill was by title an active member of the Aurora Redevelopment Commission, but more importantly an ambassador and a servant for the people of Aurora. His absence will create a void.
If you’re an Aurora native, you most likely knew Bill. He would recognize you by name whenever you are in his presence, always shared a kind word, joke, or a poke. Bill could be considered a true conservative and Patriot, having a servant’s heart, whether it was one person or the whole county. I truly believe he cared about you as an individual. I would consider him one of my best cheerleaders.
He always carried a smile and a pocket-sized US Constitution in his back pocket as both a reference and a reminder. He was a believer in liberty and understood the high cost to maintain his and his fellow citizen’s liberty. The county and the city have lost one of their great defenders of democracy. His absence will create a void. Please join us in prayers of comfort for his family during this difficult time."
Visitation for Ullrich will be held on Wednesday, November 10 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. Services will be held at the church on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Father Chris Craig officiating. Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery in Aurora with Military graveside services conducted by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
Contributions may be made to the Funeral Expenses.
