(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 Proactive Grant to the Amy Irons-Meyer Dog Park in Aurora, named in honor of a compassionate pet owner who passed away from cancer in 2014.

In its 25th year of helping donors make a difference, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2023 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer Board members is recommending a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

"I recommended this grant because the Amy Irons-Meyer Dog Park in Aurora is used a lot as it is part of the Dearborn Trail," said DCF Board member Jon Strautman.

"Patrick Meyer, Amy’s husband, developed the park to honor Amy and her love for dogs. It is a truly great space to bring a dog to enjoy the open spaces and play with other dogs. Patrick continues to make improvements to the park, and funds these improvements from contributions, T-shirt sales, and a raffle at the Farmers Fair. Patrick is a class act, and is continuing to honor Amy’s memory and passion," said Strautman.

"I have taken our grand pup to the park on several occasions. Piper has always had fun, played hard, and met new friends. Patrick expresses his love of Amy Irons-Meyer by helping the community with a place to exercise their dogs. What a fantastic way to share his wife’s passion and help the community."

The park is located off Importing Street. Established in 2015 by Patrick, the Amy Irons Meyer Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable organization. To contribute, visit daffy.org.
