(Aurora, Ind.) – Community members are invited to the official ribbon cutting ceremony at the brand-new Aurora Family Aquatic Center.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 2 at noon.

The event will feature some brief words on the $3.5 million dollar project, the ribbon cutting, entertainment and a grill out.

“We would like to say a special thanks to the Dearborn Community Foundation and the City of Lawrenceburg Community Grant Program, the Rising Sun Regional Foundation, and the many sponsors and donors who helped raise over $300,000 towards the project,” said Derek Walker, City Manager. “A big thank you to the Lawrenceburg Bond Bank and the low interest loan and Civista for covering the remainder.”

The City of Aurora financed $2.5 million towards the new pool, which features lap lanes, a water slide, kids splash area, rock climbing wall, volleyball net and basketball hoop.

The Aurora Family Aquatic Center officially opened for business last Wednesday.

Currently, visitors may purchase day passes for $5. Children ages 3 and under get in free. Visitors may ask for a receipt and the city will offer money off memberships when they become available.

Following the July 2 ribbon cutting, community members are invited to attend the Light Up Aurora fireworks show.

The event will run from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Gabbard Riverfront Park and will include live music, beer and wine garden, food vendors, kids activities and fireworks over the Ohio River.
