(Union, Ky.) – In an attempt to reduce overcrowding in its schools, Boone County will open a new middle school this fall.

The construction of Ballyshannon Middle School is almost complete at its location on Longbranch Road in Union.

When the 110,521-square-foot facility is done, it will be Boone County’s sixth middle school and the new home to more than 500 students. Redistricted students from Camp Ernst, Conner, Gray and Ockerman will attend Ballyshannon.

New students will have plenty to look forward to as the new school features an outdoor amphitheater, learning lab, courtyard with classrooms, gymnasium and more.
