(Brookville, Ind.) - Tragedy occurred at Brookville Lake on Independence Day. A five-year-old boy from Cincinnati drowned at the reservoir’s Mounds State Recreation Area Beach. Indiana Conservation Officers say a 10-year-old girl discovered the child’s body in the water just before 3:00. Her father brought the boy to shore. Attempts by bystanders to revive the child with CPR were unsuccessful. The boy was pronounced dead after being flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The boy’s parents, Benjamin and Ofelia Ramirez of Cincinnati, had been looking for him for five to 10 minutes before he was discovered in the water. Conservation officers say there are no lifeguards on duty at that Brookville Lake beach, which visitors are warned about with signage. "Indiana Conservation Officers requests visitors to our beaches to be aware there are no lifeguards on duty and there is a swim at your own risk policy except Indiana Dunes State Park. With inherent dangers swim with a friend and/or with a personal flotation device," said ICO Corey Norrod in a news release.
