On Monday, city council was unanimous in voting to have Strand Associates design the park which would be located at the current parking lots at Short and High streets, where Lawrenceburg’s Music on the River concerts take place. Strand had been recommended as the project architect by the Lawrenceburg Redevelopment Commission last week. A budget will depend on the design aspects of the park, but council members previously discussed a figure of around $4 million. “We’ll have to design it and figure out exactly what we want in it,” said city council member and Lawrenceburg Redevelopment Commission president Tony Abbott. Fellow council member Paul Seymour Jr. indicated that he would not vote to fund construction of the civic park until neighboring buildings are acquired and demolished. The city is working to acquire those two properties. City officials say the park could be ready for use as soon as next summer.
