(West Harrison, Ind.) – No action was taken last night on the contract of a Sunman-Dearborn Schools administrator.
The school board is mulling over whether to renew Sunman-Dearborn Intermediate School principal Chris Vennemeier’s contract. Her contract was recommended for non-renewal by district Superintendent Dr. Jeff Hendrix.
Reasons for the recommendation have not been given by the school corporation, as it is policy not to discuss personnel matters publicly.
Out of the 200 people who attended the meeting, nearly 20 people addressed the board asking them to renew Vennemeier's contract. Many in the audience wore read in a show of support.
In an e-mail, East Central High School junior Jacob Griffin issued a plea to the corporation to keep Vennemeier.
“She is not a typical principal. It should show how much of an impact she had on me, for me to be talking about her 6 years later. I recognized the fact that she was willing to go the extra mile to ensure her students and staff not only enjoy school, but reach their full potential,” Griffin said.
Vennemeier was Indiana’s District 10 Principal of the Year in 2005. She has been principal at the intermediate school since it opened in 2003.
