WASHINGTON – This August, Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.-09) visited all 18 counties in the Ninth District during her first August work period.

“My top priority was to visit every county in the Ninth District during my first August work period. During the 18-county tour, we heard from educational institutions, business owners, employees, first responders, farmers, local leaders and community members from Lawrence to Dearborn County and every place in between about how we can be most helpful in our service in Congress.

“I heard ways that legislation can make a real impact. Bills like my Prioritizing Evidence for Workforce Development Act at places like Prosser in Floyd County, and ways we can strengthen drug transparency in family-owned pharmacies like Family Drug in Jackson County. Every single visit offered a new perspective on how we can take ideas from places like Washington County to Washington, DC,” said Congresswoman Houchin.

During the tour, Congresswoman Houchin, a member of the House Education Workforce Committee, focused on ways to strengthen the workforce at schools and businesses.

Education visits included Jeffersonville High School, South Decatur High School, Switzerland County School Corporation, Education Center of Rising Sun, Batesville School Corporation, and an education roundtable with leaders in Scott County. During her visit to Prosser Career and Education Center in Floyd County, Congresswoman Houchin shared her recently introduced bill to prioritize evidence-based programs like Prosser. She also visited Family YMCA’s in Washington CountyScott County, and Southeastern Indiana

Business visits included Cummins in Jackson County, Honda in Decatur County, Gaylor Electric in Clark County, Family Drug in Jackson County, Brown County Music Center and Brownie’s Bean Blossom Family Restaurant in Brown County, Williams Brothers Pharmacy in Monroe County, Novaparke in Floyd County, Amazon in Clark County, Baxter in Ripley County, and Lucas Oil in Harrison County.

Congresswoman Houchin also used the tour as an opportunity to thank first responders at visits including the Decatur County Memorial Hospital’s EMS Department, Floyd County Baptist Health Hospital, Floyd County Jail with Sheriff Bush, Georgetown Fire Station with Chief Banta, and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department with Sheriff McHenry.
