Aurora, Greendale, Lawrenceburg and other surrounding communities are among those eligible for relief funding.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Dearborn County and local communities are eligible for more than $2.1 million to cover COVID-19-related expenses through the federal stimulus package, according to State Reps. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) and Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison).
Indiana allocated $300 million in federal funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economics Security Act to counties and communities for reimbursement of expenditures related to the pandemic. Frye said the funding, allocated based on population, cannot be used to replace lost tax revenue.
"Just like many families and local businesses have seen their budgets take a hit from this public health crisis, so too have many of our local governments," Frye said. "Some of their budgets could not have prepared for the significant spending taking place to help stop the spread of this disease and thankfully, they can recoup some of these unexpected costs."
Dearborn County is eligible for $1,608,173 in reimbursement funding. In addition, these local towns are eligible to receive the following amounts:
· Aurora $119,620;
· Dillsboro $45,453;
· Greendale $141,876;
· Lawrenceburg $162,381;
· Moores Hill $19,790;
· St. Leon $21,769; and
· West Harrison $9,084.
Lyness said local townships seeking reimbursement for eligible COVID-19 expenses should coordinate with their county government.
"While Indiana moves forward with its back-on-track plan, many county buildings and city halls are putting measures in place to protect employees and the public," Lyness said. "These surprise expenses can be costly, and this federal assistance can help keep our local municipalities from incurring too much debt."
The Indiana Finance Authority is in charge of implementing guidelines on how each county, city and town can use the funding, as well as compiling reimbursement requests through accepted documentation including invoices. Visit in.gov/ifa for more information.
