(Dillsboro, Ind.) – A generous donation will go toward the building of a new playground at a local school.

Dillsboro Civic Club officers and board members gathered Wednesday at Dillsboro Elementary School to present a check for $5,000 towards a new playground.

“We are always glad to help out”, said Civic Club President, Brett Hamilton.

Efforts to replace aging playground equipment have been ongoing for the past couple of years. According to Dillsboro PTO, much of the playground equipment is so outdated that parts cannot be obtained for fixes and other upgrades.

Drainage has also been a problem until this spring when Town of Dillsboro fixed a serious drainage issues on the playground that prevents students from using the equipment most of the year.

In addition, the old railroad ties are being replaced with new ones made from recycled bottle caps collected by the community.

Businesses in the community are also helping with the cause. Deville’s Pharmacy donated $1 to the Dillsboro Elementary PTO for each flu vaccine they administered during the 2020-21 flu season. Friendship Insurance and Friendship State Bank matched the funds.
