By Mike Perleberg (Undated) - Several area high school football teams will participate in the 17th Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. The Showdown is the nation’s largest and longest running high school football showcase with 25 games throughout the tri-state this coming August and September. “Great neighborhood rivalries are the essence of what the Showdown is all about, and what it was founded on back in 1998,” said Tom Gamble, president of event promoter In-Game Sports. “The event name says it all and, without a doubt, this year’s schedule has the largest number of great rivalries. Remember, I am a big fan of high school football, too, and these games are awesome for fans.” Games on the 2014 Showdown schedule include two local border wars. East Central at Harrison and Taylor at Lawrenceburg will be among the showcase games played on Friday, August 29. It is the second time being a part of the showdown for both Lawrenceburg and East Central. Lawrenceburg was among the two teams kicking off the 2013 Showdown in a blowout win over rival South Dearborn. In northern Kentucky, Cooper at Ryle on Friday, August 22 will serve as the Crosstown Showdown’s official Kentucky Kickoff game. On Friday, September 5, Conner visits Simon Kenton on the final Showcase night. The full schedule for the 17th Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown can be viewed below.
