Elderly Murder Suspect May Not Face Trial

Boyd Wright

(Madison, Ind.) – An 80-year-old Madison man who murdered an Aurora businessman last July may not be competent to stand trial.

Boyd Wright shot his daughter’s boyfriend, Harry “Ken” Harris of Aurora, at Wright’s home in Madison on July 12. Harris died of that gunshot.

Wright told Madison Police he shot Harris because he did approve of the relationship Harris had with his daughter.

The Madison Courier reports a psychologist tells the court that Wright would be unable to assist in his own defense because of his mental state. He may suffer from dementia.

"His overall condition has deteriorated greatly from the time of his initial arrest until the day of this exam," Callaway stated in her report to the Jefferson Circuit Court following a December 9 interview with Wright, according to the newspaper.

A second analysis is still to be performed by another psychologist.

Wright remains held in jail pending trial.

Harris, 57, was the operator of Harris Flooring in Aurora. Friends called the handyman "Ken Kan."
