By Travis Thayer (Erlanger, Ky.) – A local athlete is bringing home several medals after her outstanding showing at the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles. Danielle Blakeney, 24, of Erlanger won her second consecutive gold medal in all-around rhythmic gymnastics at the Special Olympic World Games held at the Wooden Center at University of California Los Angeles. Blakeney captured her second consecutive gold medal with a score of 35.904, which was 2.000 points better than the silver medalist. In 2011, Blakeney won gold in the same competition at the World Games in Athens, Greece. Blakeney also took gold this year in ball routine competition and group ball competition, silver in ribbon, and bronze in the clubs competition.
