The Archaeological Research Institute in Lawrenceburg has been granted $45,000.
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A generous grant will help the Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) increase accessibility to archaeology in the community and surrounding region.
The Dearborn Community Foundation has awarded a $45,000 grant from its Lawrenceburg Community Grant Program.
ARI will use the funding to purchase a van and golf cart. The van will be used by ARI to transport visitors, students, youth, and volunteers for guided local and regional tours of archaeological culture sites.
The van will also transport Veterans in ARI’s VALOR program, which helps Veterans learn skills in archaeology for a career after service.
ARI plans to use the golf cart to transport visitors on the augmented reality trails at the Guard Archaeological Site located in Dearborn County. Transferring visitors from the parking area to the site will preserve the integrity of the site, natural landscape, and native plant species.
“ARI is pleased to receive the DCF grant award and we are so excited to increase awareness of cultural heritage sites within Dearborn County and surrounding communities. This grant is the beginning of our accessibility efforts, and we look forward to seeing this initiative grow in the coming years” said Nichelle Lyle, Director of Resource Development and Marketing at the Archaeological Research Institute. This transportation project aims to make the ARI augmented reality trails and local and regional tours accessible to all.”
