City of Greendale Set for 4th of July Celebration

There are several events scheduled throughout the day Thursday.

(Greendale, Ind.) - The City of Greendale will hold its annual Fourth of July Celebration on Thursday. 

The fun-filled day will begin with the 5K Run/Walk at 8:00 a.m. and will wrap up with entertainment and fireworks at Greendale Park, ending around 10:30 p.m.

The day will also include a Fishing Derby at Schnebelt Pond, Kids' Bike Parade, and Golf Cart Parade.

The annual 5K Run/ Walk will begin at 8:00am and is being hosted by Voices of Indiana. To sign up and for more information, please visit https://runsignup.com/Race/IN/Greendale/Greendale4thOfJuly5K.

๐ŸŽฃ The City of Greendale and Mayor Karsteter are hosting the annual fishing derby beginning at 9:00am at Schnebelt Pond. No registration is required and children ages 3 to 13 are welcome to participate with a guardian present. Hot dogs, hamburgers, cookies, and water will be served. Bring your own fishing pole, and bait will be provided. Prizes in different categories will be awarded and each participant will receive a gift.

๐Ÿšฒ The Bike Parade will begin at 2:00pm at Oakey Park, with participants lining up on Sheldon Street. No registration is required, but don't forget to decorate your bikes!

๐Ÿ›บ The Golf Cart Parade will begin at 2:30pm at Oakey Park, with participants lining up on Sheldon Street. No registration is required, but don't forget to decorate your golf carts!

๐Ÿป A beer garden, hosted by Greendale Main Street, opens at 5:00pm. *Please note, the beer garden is cash only and to enter, you must be over 21 years of age with a valid government ID.

๐ŸŽถ A DJ will be providing music from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and live music from 7:00pm until the beginning of fireworks at Greendale Park, sponsored by Greendale Parks.

๐Ÿ• Food trucks, hosted by Greendale Parks, will be in the pool parking lot throughout the festivities.

๐Ÿฅค The Greendale Pool concession stand will be open throughout the day and closing after the fireworks.

๐ŸŽ‡ Fireworks will begin at dusk at Greendale Park.

According to Mayor Karsteter, the 5K and Fishing Derby will go on in the rain. The Bike and Golf Cart Parades are weather dependent, as is the fireworks display. The rain makeup date for the fireworks is Friday, July 5.

ROAD CLOSURES

5K Run/Walk – 7:30 to 9:30 am.  The following intersections are closed off on Nowlin Ave. at Parkside Ave., Park Grove, Cora Ave., Haag Ave. Also at Probasco & Nowlin Ave.

Fishing Derby – 9 am – 11 am No Parking on Nowlin Ave. between Arthur St. to Cora Ave.

Bike Parade Route – Begins at Oakey Park and ends at Greendale Park.  1:30 pm – 2:30 pm Parade barricades will be in place along route at Dejerus Lane, Oakey Ave between Sheldon St. to Nowlin Ave., Nowlin Ave. between Oakey Ave. to Park St.

6:00 pm No Parking signs posted on Rand Ave. between City Garage to Nowlin Ave., Nowlin Ave. between Park St. to 22 Lauren Hill Lane, and 22 Lauren Hill Lane between Nowlin Ave. to Sunset Drive.  Tanner Ave. between Park St to Cook Ave.

6:00 pm until 11 pm.  No Golf Carts or Motorized Vehicles on Rand Ave., Cook Ave., Tanner between Cook St. & Park Streets or Nowlin Ave. between Cook St. and Rand Ave.

Intersection of Ridge Ave and Brown Street has flashing four-way stop signs in place. The additional flashing red traffic light is to be turned off as supported by traffic study guidelines for this intersection. Please use caution while traveling in the area and follow all traffic signals in place.

For the 4th of July traffic, Greendale Police will be assisting with traffic controls to keep traffic flowing smoothly at this intersection between 8:00-10:30 pm. Thank you for Driving Safely!
