Persons violating any of the ordinances may be subject to fines.
(Greendale, Ind.) – Three new ordinances will soon be in effect in Greendale to clean up the appearance of the city.
Greendale Police notified residents Thursday that vehicles will be tagged and/or towed if they are in violation of new abandoned/junk vehicle ordinances.
The ordinances are as follows:
LEAVING ABANDONED VEHICLE UNLAWFUL
It shall be an unlawful act for any person to leave an abandoned vehicle anywhere within the city for more than 72 hours beyond the time when the vehicle is first declared to be abandoned and tagged as hereinafter provided. Any person who leaves an abandoned vehicle in violation of this section shall be liable to a fine as set forth in Section 10.99 in addition to any costs for towing and storage of the vehicle.
LEAVING JUNK VEHICLES IN OPEN VIEW RESTRICTED
It shall be unlawful for any person to leave a junk vehicle parked on any public property, except temporarily in an emergency and due to mechanical failure while driving the vehicle; or to leave the vehicle on private property other than in an enclosed building or other area screened from public view for any continuous period longer than 14 days. Any person violating this section shall be liable to a fine as set forth in Section 10.99 for each day that a violation continues.
LONG-TERM PARKING ON STREETS RESTRICTED
Any vehicle parked on any street in the city longer than seven days without being moved may be moved by the city police officers, and all towing and expenses charges must be paid by the owner or operator to the party who was ordered to move the vehicle.
