(St. Leon, Ind.) – The second induction class of the East Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame includes Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and Hanover College Hall of Fame member John Collier. Collier graduated from Guilford High School in 1944 after starring for four years and becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer. He started for all four years of his college career at Hanover. He was inducted to the Indiana hoops hall in 1979, then to Hanover College’s athletic hall of fame in 1995. After coaching at Vevay and Brookville high schools, Collier coached at Hanover College from 1966 until 1988. He still holds the school record for coaching wins at 388. Collier Arena, where the Hanover men’s and women’s basketball teams play, and the school’s mental attitude award is named for him. Collier highlights an impressive group of 10 former East Central and Sunman-Dearborn school district athletes who will be joining EC’s new hall of fame. The induction class was announced by ECHS athletic director Don Stonefield on Monday. Other inductees include former East Central High principal Jim Helms, EC multi-sport athlete Steve Elmlinger (graduated 1985); North Dearborn basketball and baseball star James Feist (1962); EC quarterback and former state passing yards record holder Kyle Frondorf (1984); coach, athletic director and assistant principal Cliff Giltner; EC All-American quarterback Don Hoog (1987); four-year swimming letterman Kyle House (2008); 10 varsity letter winner Daryl Huber (1984); and EC all-time leader in girls basketball points, assists, steals and free throws made and attempts and 12 varsity letter winner Robin Theising (1993). The induction banquet will be Friday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available through the East Central High School Athletic Office for $20.00 each. Baseball: All-Conference outfielder, team high batting average, member of conference, sectional, and regional championship team.
