Indiana Casinos Handle Record Amount Of Sports Wagers In September

Locally, Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg and Belterra Casino Resort set high marks for sports wagers.

(Undated) – Indiana casinos and racinos handled a record amount of sports bets in the month of September.

More than $207 million was wagered at Indiana’s 11 sports betting sites, according to PlayIndiana.com.

It is the most Hoosiers have wagered in a single month since sports betting was made legal in October of 2019. The previous record was $187 million in February 2020.

Locally, Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg and Belterra Casino Resort in Switzerland County set personal bests for sports bet wagers.

Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg handled just over $16 million in sports bets, making $2.259 million in revenue.

Gamblers wagered $13.8 million at Belterra Casino Resort in Switzerland County last month, up from $9.9 million in August. Belterra’s sports betting revenue stood at $1.4 million for the month of September.

Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun handled $162,459 in sports wagers with a revenue of $16,384.

Sports betting has seen a resurgence since sports were halted in April and May due to COVID-19.

To date, Indiana has handled $1.4 billion in sports bets with over $109 million in sports betting revenue. Future projections show that the state could make up to 256.1 million in revenue in the first five years of sports betting.

The projections from PlayIndiana.com account for market maturity in year three and sports betting being legalized in neighboring states.
