Indiana State Police Investigating Inmate Death At Jefferson County Jail

Forensic autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death

Early Friday Morning, March 15th, Detectives from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post responded to the Jefferson County Jail in Madison, Indiana to investigate the death of an inmate at the request of the Jefferson County Sheriff.

The initial investigation indicates that the Hanover (Indiana) Police Department booked Misty Williams, 44, Hanover, into the Jefferson County Jail shortly before 9:00 pm yesterday evening on preliminary charges of Neglect of a Dependent, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

At approximately 6:00 am this morning, Williams was found unresponsive in the jail.  Jail staff attempted to provide life saving medical care to Williams.  EMS soon arrived to provide further treatment, however, she was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled to be performed in Hamilton County, Ohio to determine the cause of death.  At this time, no foul play is suspected.

Misty Williams’ family has been notified.

The Indiana State Police has been assisted in this investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
