The public hearing will be Monday, May 5 at Batesville High School.
(Batesville, Ind.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 5, for the proposed State Road 46 right-sizing project in Batesville.
The hearing will take place at Batesville High School (One Bulldog Boulevard Batesville, IN) and will provide an opportunity for the public to interact with the project team, receive the latest updates on the project, and provide official public comment. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to allow attendees time to view displays and talk with project personnel prior to a presentation that will begin at 6 p.m. Following the presentation, a public comment session will be held.
The project aims to enhance safety and minimize crashes along S.R. 46 by reducing the number of travel lanes in each direction from four lanes to two lanes and by converting the existing median to a two-way center turn lane, ultimately creating consistency and improving mobility along the corridor. The contract is currently scheduled to let to contractors in December 2025.
The Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan for the project requires single lane closures and intermittent flagging. Additional project information will be presented at the hearing. INDOT will coordinate with emergency services, local school corporation officials, state and local agencies and project stakeholders to ensure potential disruptions are minimized.
Following the public hearing, all comments received will be reviewed and published in the finalized environmental document with responses, which will be published on INDOT's website following document approval.
There are several ways to follow project progress, ask questions and offer feedback.
