LPD is honoring five officers lost in the line of duty.
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Lawrenceburg Police Department supports the National Police Week held May 14th - 20th in Washington DC to Respect, Honor & Remember our local police officers and law enforcement officers from communities across the United States who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week, which occurs every May, pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community. During the National Police Week, the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum hold ceremonies, including the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil, held on Saturday May 13th, 2023 to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial.
The local Lawrenceburg Police Memorial on Walnut Street in downtown Lawrenceburg, is dedicated to the fallen officers of the Lawrenceburg Police Department who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty to include:
- Marion F. Cunningham
- Charles A. Liddle
- Sylvester Blair
- James C. Ratliff
- Thomas L. Cochran
Mayor Kelly Mollaun shared “Public Safety is a priority for any community. The City of Lawrenceburg salutes the honorable public service dedication of our local law enforcement officers and those in cities and towns across the nation. We’re fortunate to have the resources to have been able to send some of our officers to participate in National Police Week. We hope to be able to do this on an annual basis, based on the feedback received from our officers that have been able to attend and share their support.”
Lawrenceburg Police Department attendees for the 2023 National Police Week events include LPD Lt. Jonathan Kolb and LPD Patrolman Joseph Morehead along with family members.
