Lawrenceburg Schools Celebrate Successful 2023-24 School year

There was plenty of good happening throughout the school corporation's four schools.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation is reflecting on a successful and eventful 2023-24 school year.

This past school year was marked by significant milestones and initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational experience for all students.

Corporation-wide, Lawrenceburg Schools is celebrating the launch of its new graduate initiative Portrait of a Graduate, the newly established LCSC Alumni Association, facility upgrades at all schools, and improved safety measures.

Significant facility upgrades include a new preschool wing at Lawrenceburg Primary School, and a total redesign of the four-story academic wing at Lawrenceburg High School. Other interior and exterior work was completed at the other school buildings, plus installation of synthetic turf softball and baseball fields.

On the safety front, all Lawrenceburg Schools now have two resource officers on site.

Lawrenceburg High School was the winner of the EIAC Academic Banner this school year. Other successes include:

  • Graduation Pathways: Between LHS and what is available from both Ivy Tech and Vincennes University, students can select between 36 unique graduation pathways.
  • Scholarship Dollars Earned: The LHS graduating class of 2024 earned more than $430,000 in scholarships.
  • Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment: This year, 425 LHS students enrolled in dual credit and dual enrollment programs through Ivy Tech, earning 2,363 college credits. Additionally, LHS students earned 43 Indiana Core Certificates and 32 associate degrees through Vincennes University.
  • Career Center Certifications: Students earned 32 Ivy Tech certifications in fields such as business administration, dementia care/certified nursing aid, electrocardiograph tech, electrical, machine tool, pharmacy tech, software development, and welding.

Greendale Middle School successes include:

  • DLI (Dual Language Immersion) Program Expansion: The first class of the Spanish DLI program has planned for the transition to middle school, moving from a 50/50 model to a 25/75 model. This program, supported by Indiana University, prepares students for bilingual and biliterate proficiency and postsecondary opportunities.
  • The Tiger Paw Program incentivizes positive behavior, with students earning Tiger Paws throughout the year for a chance to win exciting prizes like Oculus VR headsets, TVs, and more. This program helps to foster a healthier school environment at GMS.
  • High School Credits and Preparation: All eighth grade honors students have the opportunity to earn high school credits in PE/Health, and College & Careers classes, ensuring a strong start in high school.
  • Cross Country Team: Qualified for State and 7th grade girls volleyball won the SEI Tournament.

Central Elementary School Successes:

  • Science of Reading: Adult learners in the building have been working all year on the science of reading to help support our super scholars. Teachers have focused on increasing vocabulary, morphology and reciprocal teaching. We are anticipating strong IREAD-3 scores to demonstrate this initiative
  • DLI Program: The DLI program has successfully completed its first year in fifth grade and now spans all grades at CES, thanks to the dedication of our DLI teachers, Mr. Galey, and Mrs. Spaeth. Students were also able to measure their progress through the first language proficiency test offered this year in all grade levels.
  • Community Partners: We are blessed to be supported by our community. We have partnered with community members to support our Think Smart Stay Safe program, Get Real About Tobacco, Captain Cash, Garden Tower, Pen Pals, Baxter the Service Dog, Little Library, Art Mural, Exhibit Day, and Arbor Day
  • Clubs and Activities. CES provides a variety of after school activities and clubs. The Girls on the Run program celebrated its 25th anniversary 5K race this year in Cincinnati, and our school’s two teams of 18 third to fifth grade students each were happy to participate. Other programs offered include Code Club, Archery Club, Good News Club, Gardening Club, Art Club, Choral Fest, Basketball, Tutoring, and Homework Help
  • Employability Skills. Even though our students are young, we still focus on employability skills through a variety of programs. We use Second Steps, Kudar Academy, and emphasize the core competencies from our Portrait of a Graduate initiative to support our students' growth. Every day on the morning announcements, we celebrate a Kindness Winner. This is a student who demonstrates above and beyond kindness to someone else in the building. At the end of the year, we recognized one student from each class for our Ben Van Cleave winners in fifth grade, our Friendship Award winners in fourth grade, and our Marge Wells recipients in third grade. We are proud of all of our students for demonstrating employability skills and kindness.

Lawrenceburg Primary School successes:

  • Preschool Program: Serving 60 students per day, the preschool program prepares children for their educational journey, fostering good work habits and early exposure to kindergarten readiness skills. Our preschool students ended the school year familiar with LPS and ready to transition into kindergarten!
  • DLI Program similar to CES
  • Student Achievement Recognition: We continued our tradition of recognizing students each month from each classroom for their achievements in math, reading, creative writing, and character/citizenship with the respective awards of Math Master, Rockin Reader, Awesome Author, Principal's Pride and School Resource Officer Club. Additionally, we recognize students with perfect attendance each month as part of the Top Tiger Club.
