Local Casino Revenues Rise In 1Q

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Southeast Indiana riverboats have been banking more money in the first three months of 2012, according to the latest revenue reports from the Indiana Gaming Commission.

Although attendance has declined at Hollywood, Rising Star, and Belterra casinos during the first quarter, revenues are up. The 1.6 million visitors going to the boats is a decline of 3.4 percent when compared to the same period in 2011.

Revenues are actually up 1.4 percent to $171 million in the first quarter, meaning those visitors who did go were gambling more money.

Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg continues to attract the lion’s share of the local gaming market with 65 percent of the region’s revenues and 56 percent of the visits. The Penn National Gaming riverboat’s revenues increased slightly by 0.7 percent to $110.9 million while attendance declined 6.6 percent to 919,972 visitors in the quarter.

Revenues at Belterra Casino Resort in Switzerland County improved 5.0 percent to $36.9 million. Attendance was up as well, growing by 1.1 percent to 407,785.

Sandwiched between its two competitors, Rising Star Casino Resort in Rising Sun saw a 0.8 percent uptick in people stepping aboard to 312,984. Revenues, however, fell slightly to $23.2 million.

At Indiana’s 13 casinos statewide, visits increased by 1.1 percent to 6,271,836 in the first quarter. Revenues totaled $686.9 million, down 1.2 percent from last year.
