OCCF Awards $53,253 In Community Grants

11 different organizations will benefit from these grants.

(Ohio Co., Ind.) - The Ohio County Community Foundation awarded a total of $53,253 during the first grant cycle of 2020. The grants were funded through endowment funds established by donors with a vision to create perpetual charitable funds to be distributed in the form of grants to non-profit organizations whose services benefit the Ohio County community. Each organization could request up to $5,000. The following local organizations received a grant. The grants were funded from the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund unless otherwise noted.

  • People Helping People, Inc. was awarded $5,000 towards their Annual Canned Food Drive. The canned foods will be donated to the Rising Sun Church of Christ Christian Outreach Free Store to be distributed to needy Ohio County residents. A portion of the grant will be donated to the Services from the Heart Fund overseen by the Ohio County Health Department to assist Ohio County residents with groceries, heating bills and medication.
  • Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene was awarded $5,000 to reseal the church parking lot.
  • Dearborn County Clearing House for Emergency Aid was awarded $2,078 to purchase cleaning supplies and toiletries to be distributed to Ohio County residents from their mobile pantry.
  • Rising Sun Ohio County School Corporation was awarded $5,000 towards the purchase of a mower for the school grounds.
  • Rising Sun Church of Christ for the Rising Sun Christian Outreach Free Store was awarded $5,000 to purchase food and toiletries to be distributed to Ohio County residents.
  • Ohio County Public Library was awarded $5,000 to purchase new books and DVDs for circulation.
  • Rising Sun Ohio County Senior Citizens Housing, Inc. was awarded $5,000 to replace the fluorescent and incandescent lighting in three building complexes to LED lighting. Funded by the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund and the Henry & Dortha Curry Endowment Fund.
  • Noah O’Banion American Legion Post #59 was awarded $5,000 to purchase a required overhead fire door for the new smoke free family addition.
  • Denver Siekman Environmental Park was awarded $5,000 towards the purchase of Back to School supplies, shoes, clothing and hygiene items for low income Ohio County children.
  • Voices of Indiana, Inc. was awarded $1,250 to provide scholarships for Ohio County students to participate in the Young Voices program.
  • Laughrey Valley Fraternal Order of Police No 146 was awarded $5,000 to allow needy Ohio County children to shop for clothing, shoes and a toy for Christmas with a local law enforcement officer.
  • Southeastern Indiana Independent Living Center was awarded $4,925 to fund a Community Outreach Campaign to promote their services to Ohio County residents.
