(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department (RSVFD) has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Ohio County Community Foundation Annual Celebration Grant. The Ohio County Community Foundation (OCCF) has been funding programs and projects benefitting Ohio County in the areas of cultural affairs, education, community development, health, scholarships and human services for 23 years (1998-2021). In honor of those years of grant making, the RSVFD grant award amount is $10,023.

This grant will aid in the purchase of an Industrial Washer/Extractor. Certain plastics and nylons are now petroleum based, causing them to give off toxic gases and particles that can accumulate on personal protective gear during a fire. This machine is specifically designed to thoroughly launder cancer-causing contaminants out of the personal protective equipment used in the fire industry. The acquisition of this equipment will promote the health and safety of the Ohio County firefighters.

The OCCF would like to thank all of the applicants for submitting such outstanding grant proposals. They would also like to again, Congratulate the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department for being chosen as this years’ OCCF Celebration Grant recipient. For more information concerning the Ohio County Community Foundation, please contact Peggy Dickson, Executive Director at 812-438-9401.
