(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The awards ceremony and opening for the 2019 Ohio County Tourism Photography Postcard Contest and Exhibition took place on Friday, September 20 at the Visitors Center in Rising Sun.

Over 35 entries were submitted to the contest that encouraged locals and tourists to enter photographs of recognizable landscapes, historic landmarks, and events within the Ohio County limits. This year’s participants included photographers from Indiana and Kentucky.

Judges Award winners are: Rich Fowler, Tiffany Gibbons, Donna Huber, and Elizabeth Purdom. The Rising Sun Mayor Brent Bascom Choice Award went to Richie Baker. The Facebook Favorite winner was Tiffany Gibbons. Natasha Bunger and Rae Gipson received Honorable Mentions.

Winners received a cash award and will have their submissions made into postcards to promote Rising Sun/Ohio County. One image will be selected to display on tourism’s billboard on Eads Parkway in 2020.

This year’s judge was Marilyn Jackson of Spencer, Indiana. Jackson is the newly-retired tourism director from Owen County. Along with her director duties, she coordinated their county’s marketing and promotional materials. Remaining an avid supporter of “Sweet Owen” County and McCormick State Park, Jackson’s volunteerism earned her a 2019 Lt. Governor’s Hoosier Hospitality Award.

Photo entries will remain on display at the Visitors Center at 217 North High Street in Rising Sun through Sunday, October 20. The Center is open 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Postcards can be picked up for free at local businesses and the Visitors Center when available.
