(Burlington, Ky.) – The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has released more details about a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Boone County Library.

Samad Green, 58, has been charged with Assault 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.

According to investigators, Green was inside the library when Larry Durhan, 51, began to repossess Green’s vehicle.

Durhan told detectives that he was still in the parking lot when Green walked out of the library and was offered the opportunity to retrieve personal items from inside the vehicle. Green allegedly retrieved a “steak knife” and cut the strap covering the driver’s side tire and attempted to drive off, which was unsuccessful.

At that time, Durhan called 911 to alert the authorities of the situation. During the call, he told dispatch he was armed with a handgun.

The situation further escalated with Green confronting Durhan with the knife. He allegedly stabbed Durhan in the hand before a struggle for Durhan’s gun ensued. Green was able to gain possession of the gun and allegedly fired multiple rounds striking Durhan once in the right calf.

Responding deputies arrived on scene to find Green still in possession of the gun. He was detained without further incident.

Durhan was transported to UC Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was since released from the hospital.

In a statement to detectives Green said, “I’m probably in the wrong. I shot a man. I didn’t have the right to, but he didn’t have the right to pull a gun on me”. Green told detectives that he only fired once at Durhan, however, detectives located three (3) spent shell casings at the scene.

Green is held on $250,000 cash bond.
