(Batesville, Ind.) - For Orthopaedic Surgeon J.D. Stephens, returning to southeastern Indiana to provide care for the people of this region is a dream come true. Raised in Batesville, he has always had a deep connection to the area and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of his patients.

“I was drawn back to this community because I know how great the people are here,” said Dr. Stephens. “Having grown up on a farm, I also find great satisfaction in working with my hands and a job well done. The field of orthopaedics offers both qualities. When a patient comes to me with a musculoskeletal issue, I enjoy being able to identify the problem and provide a solution. The most rewarding part of my job is being able to restore someone’s quality of life.”

Dr. Stephens received his medical degree from Marian University and completed his residency at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. He then completed his fellowship training with some of the nation’s most respected orthopaedists at Joint Implant Surgeons in Columbus, Ohio.

Offering a full range of orthopaedic services, Dr. Stephens provides fracture care, and treats conditions pertaining to the hip, knee, shoulder, hand, wrist, foot and ankle. He specializes in primary and revision full and partial knee replacements and offers multiple approaches to total hip replacements, including the direct anterior approach. Having grown up playing sports, he also has a passion for sports medicine, providing services that range from ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair to shoulder arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair.

“Whether I’m caring for an athlete sidelined by an injury or an older person in need of a joint replacement, I find it fulfilling to help patients get back to the activities they love,” he added.

Dr. Stephens and his wife, Stephanie, have three young children. In their free time, they enjoy spending time outdoors, visiting loved ones and attending sporting events.

“This community has made my family feel welcomed and we’re excited to plant our roots here,” he said. “I tell my patients if they choose me for their care, they can expect to be treated like family.”

Dr. Stephens sees patients at Margaret Mary’s Physician Center located at 26 Six Pine Ranch Road in Batesville. To schedule an appointment, call 812.933.3765.
