OWI Charges Filed For Memorial Day Weekend Crash

Gregory Ivey is accused of driving drunk and causing a crash on U.S. 52 in Franklin County.

(Franklin County, Ind.) – Drunk driving charges have been filed against an Indianapolis resident who allegedly caused a Memorial Day weekend crash which injured several people.

Gregory P. Ivey, Jr., 35, has been charged with four felony counts of OWI Causing Serious Bodily Injury (level 6 felony) and one count of OWI (class A misdemeanor).

The wreck happened Saturday, May 26 on U.S. 52 near Little Cedar Road in Franklin County. Indiana State Police say Ivey’s BAC was twice the legal driving limit when his Toyota Rav-4 crossed the center line and collided head-on with another vehicle driven by Jason D. Krise, 43, of Harrison.

Krise and Ivey were each transported by medical helicopters to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Krise’s wife and three children – ages six, seven, and eight – were each hospitalized. It is unclear if a fourth child was injured.

A trooper investigating the crash observed in Ivey’s vehicle an open beer can stored in a Starbucks coffee mug. Another beer can was allegedly found on the floorboard. The trooper also located a cooler in the back containing beer cans.

A blood sample taken from Ivey confirmed alcohol in his system, state police said. A third motorist who was following Ivey told troopers that the Rav-4 was swaying in its lane until it crossed the center line.

Ivey is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Franklin Circuit Court II on July 10.
