Spartan will add the Indiana Sprint at the Dearborn County ski area to its list of more than 130 events around the world. A deal to bring the globally-recognized obstacle course race was recently completed, says Tim Doll with Perfect North Slopes. The Indiana Sprint scheduled for Saturday, July 9 will be between 3 and 5 miles with 20 to 23 obstacles for racers to overcome while traversing the 400-foot vertical drop ski hill. Spartan events typically attracts hundreds of competitors. There are elite, competitive, and open divisions, as well as a kids run. A team competition called a Hurricane Heat will challenge teams to cover as much combined ground as possible in a three or four hour time span. Hosting a Spartan race is the next step for Perfect North Slopes, which general manager Chip Perfect says first dipped its toes in the mud obstacle course racing during the offseason back in 2011. “Through our 12 homegrown Mud-Stash events, we found that we want to cater more to the recreational OCR participant focusing on fun. We're excited to host the nationally recognized Spartan Race as a fun activity but also a more extreme event, and give exposure to the beautiful hills of Southeast Indiana and Perfect North Slopes,” Perfect says.
