Purple Heart Veteran, Daughter Identified As Double Murder Victims

By Mike Perleberg Walter Bryant, Jr. (pictured) and his daughter, Faith Craig, have been identified as the two murder victims discovered inside an Aurora home on Friday, January 19. File photo. (Aurora, Ind.) - A decorated military veteran and his daughter were the two people found murdered inside an Aurora home on Friday. We’re learning more Monday about the double homicide discovered at a home on Douglas Drive. It was Friday evening when police were requested to perform a welfare check. Inside the home, officers discovered two bodies. Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens released the names of the victims Monday morning. They were 78-year-old Walter Bryant, Jr. and his daughter, 58-year-old Faith Craig. Their causes of death have not been released. Autopsies are still being completed, said Deddens. The prosecutor said that a suspect was arrested in Kentucky on Saturday. The prosecutor is holding off on publicly naming that suspect for now until formal charges are filed in Dearborn County. The suspect, captured by U.S. Marshals, remains held at the Pulaski County, Kentucky Jail awaiting extradition to Indiana. It is unclear what relationship, if any, Bryant and Craig may have had with their alleged killer. Bryant was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Army. The Lawrenceburg native served 21 years until 1977, including a tour in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a Purple Heart recipient, having been wounded in action twice while in Vietnam.  He also received various medals for valor and heroism. The Cincinnati Reds honored Bryant as a Hometown Hero during a home game in 2016. Bryant's wife, Betty, had died in February 2017. They had been married for 55 years.
