(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Twenty educators within the Rising Sun-Ohio County School Corporation have received funding for their classrooms.
The Ohio County Community Foundation recently awarded $9,403.95 in Teachers’ Classroom Tools Grants.
The purpose of the grant program is to promote creativity in Ohio County classrooms. Funds may be used to buy supplies for an innovative classroom project or program, a field trip or to purchase teaching devices that enhance classroom learning.
Teachers may request up to $1,000.
Since the program began in 1999, the Ohio County Community Foundation has awarded over $170,000 to Rising Sun-Ohio County School Corporation teachers.
Donations to the Teachers’ Classroom Fund are encouraged as a way to honor a favorite teacher. The honoree will receive an acknowledgement letter informing them of your gift, however, no amount will be disclosed. Donations can be mailed to the Ohio County Community Foundation, PO Box 170, Rising Sun, IN 47040 or by visiting the Ohio County Community Foundation at 330 Industrial Access Drive, Rising Sun.
Listed below are the teachers that received a grant and the grade that will benefit from that grant:
- Lucy Carrigan, Grade 1-2, awarded $122.94 to purchase Leveled Readers to strengthen reading skills and Math Manipulatives to teach regrouping.
- Ana Neves, Grade 6, awarded $450 to purchase software for 6th grade Spanish.
- Francyelle Rosa, Grade 4, awarded $450 for the Spanish Immersion Program.
- Jaron Bovard, Grade 6-8, awarded $329.67 to purchase a Scholastic Action Magazine Subscription to assist students with comprehension.
- Emmalea Musselman, 6-8 Grade, awarded $299 to purchase the Generation Genius Program to engage students in math and science.
- Jessica Peelman, Grade 3, awarded $500 to purchase STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) bins and supplies.
- Nicole Bailey, Kindergarten, awarded $300 for cooking in the classroom to teach letters and sounds of the alphabet.
- Emma Levi, Grade 6-12, awarded $475 to fund monthly field trips to practice life skills for Intensive Academic middle and high school students.
- Andrea Levi Grade 12, awarded $990.90 to upgrade Chemistry lab equipment.
- Alexandria Koons, 9-11 Science, awarded $716.25 to purchase supplies to expand the Bio-Medical Science and Biology program.
- Tim Slayback, 9-12 Industrial Education, awarded $799.99 to purchase a bench top vertical milling machine
- Jennifer Reed, Grades 8-12, awarded $460 to purchase items to enhance hands-on activities in science.
- Kasha Howell, Grades 9-12, awarded $383 to purchase math items for students with learning/behavioral difficulties.
- Carrie Fisk, Grade 1, awarded $150 to purchase behavior cards and prize incentives.
- Brandon Turner, Grade 4, awarded $150 to purchase behavior cards and prize incentives.
- Jennifer Craig, Grade 3 was awarded $500 to purchase tools for creative literacy and math center rotations.
- Ginger Meyers, 7-8 Grade, awarded $500 to purchase classroom tools to aid students in classroom management and organization.
- Lauramary Padget, Grade 1, awarded $1,000 to purchase Scholastic curriculum for entire First Grade.
- Karen Chase, Pre-School, awarded $327.20 for learning center supplies.
- Elinor Kelnhofer, Grade 7 & 9-12 Family & Consumer Science Education, awarded $500 to purchase a dishwasher.
