Rose-Hulman’s ‘Ask Rose’ Math & Science Helpline Extends Hours

Today and tomorrow, March 19-20, Rose-Hulman's AskRose tutors will be available for math and science homework help for homebound students.

(Terre Haute, Ind.) - A popular math and science tutoring helpline will be available during extended hours to help homebound middle and high school students.

Today, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology announced that their AskRose hotline will extend its daytime hours Thursday and Friday, March 19-20.

Due to the current coronavirus public health crisis that has led schools across the state to move to an e-learning environment, AskRose aims to help students better understand math and science homework problems from their virtual or online classes.

Homework help will be available from 12:00 - 3:00 PM both days through a phone call, email, or chat session. Students will still be to use the AskRose helpline during the normal serivce times of Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 - 10:00 PM.

Depending on availability, AskRose tutors may be available to help 6th through 12th grade students on weekdays for the remainder of the school year. Even though Rose-Hulman students are doing remote learning, they are able to continue these services from their individual locations across the country.

“We’re currently reviewing our student tutors’ daytime online class availability to see if our AskRose services can be made available from noon to 3 p.m. after Friday, March 20,” Smith says. “We’re also looking into extending our outreach to upper elementary school students, fourth and fifth grade, with math and science questions. We want to help students affected by these challenging times continue learning essential math and science skills.”

This program does not just give students the answers. AskRose tutors help guide young learners through their homework problems to help them better understand math and science concepts.

Since 1991, AskRose has supervised about 700,000 tutoring sessions.

All AskRose services are free through a Lilly Endowment Inc. grant and financial assistance from Rose-Hulman.
