(Versailles, Ind.) - The Indiana Department of Education released results of the Spring 2024 ILEARN statewide assessment last week that showed South Ripley with the highest passing rates of all school districts in Southeastern Indiana. The ILEARN is the statewide accountability assessment given to students in grades 3-8 each spring. The ILEARN includes both an English Language Arts (ELA) assessment as well as a math assessment.
Looking at the ELA results, 54.3 percent of South Ripley students passed this portion as compared to a state average of 41 percent. This passing percentage was not only the highest in Ripley County and southeast Indiana, but also ranked 28th in the state, which is in the top 8 percent of all public school districts.
South Ripley also posted the highest county and local ranking on the math assessment with 61.9% of SR students passing the test compared to a state average of 40.7 percent. South Ripley’s math passing rate ranked 20th of all public school districts in the state, which is a top 5 percent ranking.
The state also released combined passing rates showing the percentage of students that passed both the ELA and math assessments. Once again, in a comparison of southeast Indiana school districts, South Ripley’s passing percentage of 45.2 percent was the highest in the area, and ranked 31st of all public school districts in Indiana. Statewide the average percentage of students passing both assessments was 30.8 percent.
“We are ecstatic over these outstanding results,” said South Ripley Superintendent Rob Moorhead. “Our students, teachers, administrators, staff and parents are to be commended for their efforts. These results reflect our commitment to the academic success of our students and are directly related to the tremendous work our teachers and staff do in our classrooms. It is gratifying to see our students reach the high expectations set by their teachers and to know that this is being accomplished in such a caring environment. It’s another great day to be a Raider!”
Results are also made available for individual grade levels and South Ripley posted some impressive statewide rankings there as well. South Ripley 3rd grade students had the 2nd highest passing percentage on the math portion of all Indiana public school districts at 87.1 percent, while South Ripley 4th grade students posted the highest math passing percentage of all public school districts in the state at 81.9 percent.
